Valentine's Day.

I swear, I totally meant to upload this yesterday.
But then I didn't. So it seems you guys get a late Valentine's Day post, soo...maybe you'll just have to make up an imaginary holiday to bake these mini mudcakes, because...help. They're just so good!

As for me, my Valentine's Day was pretty mundane, you know? A few proposals, bunches of roses everywhere, chocolate coming out of my ears, strings upon strings of beaux - all those boring old Valentine-y things.

(I'm kidding. Gosh. You all take things so seriously! If you were wondering, no, I didn't get anything. Instead, I made these awesome chocolate hearts which taste like the tears of unicorns mixed with fairy dust. That's pretty darn good, man.)

Mini Chocolate Mudcake Hearts

175g of butter
270g of dark chocolate
1/2 cup of firmly-packed brown sugar
3/4 cup of water
3/4 cup of plain flour
1/4 cup of self-raising flour
1 egg
Paper hearts
Icing sugar, for dusting

  1. Preheat the oven to 150C. Line a26x32cm pan with baking paper
  2. Melt the butter, chocolate, sugar, and water in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until melted. Transfer to a large bowl, and leave to cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Whisk the flours and egg into the cooled chocolate mixture and pour into the prepared pan. Bake for about 20 minutes and cool the cake in the pan.
  4. Place the cake onto a board and remove the paper. Using a heart cutter (or any other cutter), cut out as many hearts as you can. You'll probably get around 20-25 hearts (I had 23). Place your paper hearts onto the cakes and dust with icing sugar, to create a pattern; carefully remove paper.
And do you know what the best part about this recipe is? You can eat the scraps left over, and nobody will know.

Guys, I have this feeling I used too many italics today. Oops...sorry :\
